Background
My goal with this project was to create a power supply that could be used for various electronics projects. Ideally, It would have a fixed 5V and 12V output, as well as a variable output.
Hardware
For the input power source, I used a laptop power supply, supplying 19V at 5A max. Two buck converters take the voltage down to 5V and 12V, and are connected to 3 jacks each.
A small variable power supply also feeds 3 outputs. The circuit for the variable voltage is separate from the fixed voltage circuit.
The circuit was assembled in a 4″x4″x4″ PVC junction box using chassis mount jacks and switches.
Usage
The inputs and outputs of this power supply are barrel connectors (5.5×2.1 mm). This allows for easy “pigtail” adapters to supply power for various electronics. These “pigtails” can be made rather easily for various applications.
A fourth 12V jack was added with a switch to control a fan. This is for my soldering fume extractor.
